Natural light colored sand especially selected and packaged for use in incense censers. Fine small grain sand will hold cones and sticks and works as a heat absorbing "base" for charcoal tablets. Comes in a 5.5 ounce bag. A really good idea for incense lovers, giving a nice clean look to any censer. Good sand helps heat absorption and air circulation around charcoal and incense "Heating" Incense Over Smoldering Charcoal with Sand: Fill a heat proof incense bowl or censer with at least 2" of sand. Form a cone shape or mound so that you can place the charcoal tablet at the peak. This will allow air to flow around the charcoal. Place a charcoal tablet on the sand and light the edge. If it's self-igniting charcoal you will see tiny sparks as you light it and it will ignite quickly. If you need to hold the charcoal over an open flame to ignite it, use charcoal tongs to hold it. When the charcoal is glowing red hot and is covered with grayish-white ash, then loosely cover the charcoal with a small piece of aluminum foil (you can even make a small foil cup). Making sure the charcoal has enough air flow at the top so it doesn’t go out. Place your incense on the foil. Enjoy! Tips: If using wood chips they should be approximately ¼" wide or the size of a grain of rice. · Resins can melt. If you're using aluminum foil cup to burn them never pick up the cup until it is cool. You can get a serious burn for the hot liquid!
