December 1st 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM FREE CLASS Zoroastrianism is one of the oldest world religions, and had a tremendous influence worldwide. The very word magus comes from its priesthood. Many traditional religious practices could be considered magic as we think of it today, including use of manthras and nirangs (words of power) for healing, blessings, and other purposes, use of amulets, ritual furrows as a barrier to evil, divination, and other practices. Most of the source material on this topic is extremely rare and untranslated. This class will give an overview of the religion, how it influenced other religions and magic practices, its understanding of supernatural beings (good and evil), and show examples of ritual tools, manthras, amulets, incenses and other consumables.
