With a lineage traced back to King David, Saint Joseph is most famous as the suragate father of Jesus. Believed to be a carpenter within common tradition, though the word tekton used to describe him can also mean artisan or worker of iron, or stone, Joseph has been taken up as the patron saint of workers, and is viewed as the Patron saint and protector of the Catholic Church.
