Author: Lautwein, Thomas

The goddess Hecate is one of the "dark" goddesses. One of the oldest pre-patriarchal Earth Goddess, she was passionately venerated in ancient times by the people but also to be feared: as ruler of all forms of magic was the "Witch Goddess" open the door to the underworld, allowing contact with spirits, ghosts and the dead, as an oracle deity reveal the future to grant her admirers power and wealth.

The cult of Hecate in ancient times was widespread, but has always maintained a mysterious and hidden as the other deities. Among her supporters were not just witches and wise women, but also magician theurgists and Neo-Platonic philosopher.

Although Hecate was demonized in the Christian Middle Ages, and its image badly distorted negative, there is the memory of its importance completely extinguished before. In the present seems to be working toward a correction of their interpretation, leading to the revival of their worship.

The source is based on extensive studies work initially points to the complexities of this archetypal figure, and also characterized their secret to survival in the modern era.
