Camphor-1 pound

Associated with the Moon, Cinnamonum camphora, or camphor, comes from a tree native to countries like China and Borneo. A valuable healing resin for centuries, it was one of the few healing herbs not deleted from Unami texts translated in Europe that were edited, if not destroyed during the Renaissance. There was simply nothing Europe had to offer that could replace camphor. In high doses Camphor numbs and reduces circulation. It has been applied topically to accomplish this. Tiger Balm is a good example of this. In low doses it increases circulation and heats the body. Camphor is also used to combat headache, sinus problems, and lung issues, among other things.

Magickally, has a long history of use in funerary rites and in purification incenses. It is interesting then that it is associated with the Moon. In this case it is the paradoxical nature of the resin that comes to mind, its ability to heat or to cool, to rouse or to calm. Of course, the color, the texture, and the coolness are all reasons to think of the Moon when working with camphor. A feminine resin, one of only a few associated with femininity, it is also associated with water, chastity, good health, revitalizing, concentration, and divination. Looking into a bowl of water to divine the future? Try adding Camphor to the water. The High Priestess and the Chariot of the tarot deck are associated with this resin.
