Benzoin Sumatra-Resin-Pieces-1 pound
Benzoin is commonly available in two types, Benzoin Siam and Benzion Sumatra. Benzoin Siam is called Styrax tonkinensis. Styrax and storax are both words that used to mean what resin means today: a hardened tree sap that made a pleasant odor when it was burned. S. tonkinensis and S. benzoin (Benzoin Sumtra) are closely related trees, but the S. tonkinensis contains more of several of the key chemical constituents than Styrax benzoin. It is in pink color, while S. benzoin is pale brown. Many people prefer one Benzoin over the other once they have the opportunity to smell them burning. People can be intensely loyal to the one that they prefer.
Best known as a clearing, peaceful and purifying incense, it is traditionally burned to gain balance, inspiration and wisdom, it is burned for protection, and to help those greiving a loss to gain a feeling of space and comfort. The scent is used to help people make better descisions. Associated with the goddess Venus and the element of Air. Its association with Air is a sure clue to its uses in the body: working with the lungs and the skin.
