Annatto Seed-Whole-1 pound
Once used in body paints in South America, Annatto seeds (Bixa orellana) have become popular all over again as a food colorant. Annatto is thought to have more to offer than a beautiful red coloring. It may be a great antioxidant that could lower cholesterol while protecting the liver from toxins. Annatto also affects sugars in the body, raising them in some people, depending on the amount consumed. Annatto is also popular in skin care, but it does make the skin look red.
Part of a ritual drink for the Itza government, annatto seeds are about getting things done, especially when blended with cocoa and vanilla, just as it was when the Itza government was a major part of Central America.
