Author:
Olatunji, Babatunde
One of modern music's first cross-cultural ambassadors, Olatunji almost singlehandedly seeded the pulse of African music into the American mainstream with his 1959 debut Drums of Passion. He died on April 6, 2003. This first posthumous release, recorded with all the key members of his Drums of Passion ensemble in 1992, when he was still at the height of his powers, offers traditional chants and drumming from his native Yoruba culture, intended for healing and guided meditation. Go in peace, Baba!
