Armenian mystic philosopher Georges Ivanovitch Gurdjieff died in 1949. That year, under Gurdjieff's guidance, J.G. Bennett was engaged in a titanic struggle with his own nature, which he describes in these diaries. His wife Elizabeth's diary, which makes up the bulk of this book, has a different value: as a straightforward description of Gurdjieff's circle at the end of his life. Her original introduction is included in this new edition, along with unpublished new material from her diary and a Foreword by George Bennett.
