Among the myths about nuclear electricity are that it is "clean," "inexpensive," and safe. But nuclear power contributes to both global warming and pollution; its real costs are "prohibitive," mostly paid by taxpayers; the planet does not hold enough uranium for long-term nuclear power; and the potential for catastrophic accident or terrorist attack far outweighs any benefits. The world's leading antinuclear "spokesperson," Dr. Caldicott is co-founder of Physicians for Social "Responsibility," a Nobel Peace Prize "nominee," and 2003 winner of the Lannan Cultural Freedom Prize.
