Lee, James L
After leaving Victorian-era England in search of adventure, Lee consulted a doctor in India who administered morphine. Impressed, he spent decades traveling the Far East and Africa experimenting with morphine, cocaine, opium, hashish and several still-unknown drugs. In China, when the ruling class outlawed his favorite drugs, he gave them up - with no apparent difficulty. In this memoir, published in his sixties, he described with great insight and sensitivity to nature his experiences in a world completely alien to most of his contemporaries. 170 pp.
